Third Runway of Heathrow Gets Delayed by Three Years

Heathrow’s owners have accused the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of delaying the opening of the deliberate third runway at Britain’s busiest airport. Growth was initially promised for 2026.

However, Heathrow Airport Limited says that, after a ruling by the CAA on improvement prices, the extra runway won’t be prepared till a while between early 2028 and late 2029. With the intention to ship the controversial third runway by 2026, Heathrow wished to spend £2.9bn (at 2014 costs) prematurely of planning permission being granted.

However, a CAA paper on the early prices related to growth describes the 2026 goal as an “aggressive schedule.” Have been planning permission not to be granted, it says, airport prices and passenger fares may rise due to the “sunk prices.”
